About
The Turner Prize, established in 1984 and organised by Tate, is awarded each year to a British artist for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the previous twelve months. A jury chaired by the Director of Tate Britain selects a shortlist of four.
There is no open entry; artists are considered by the jury, which also takes public suggestions. The 2026 shortlist (Simeon Barclay, Kira Freije, Marguerite Humeau, Tanoa Sasraku) was announced 23 April 2026.
The 2026 exhibition runs at Teesside University's MIMA, Middlesbrough, from 26 September 2026 to 29 March 2027. The winner, announced 10 December 2026, receives GBP 25,000; the other shortlisted artists receive GBP 10,000 each.
