About
The Scott Creative Arts Foundation invites emerging artists living in Yorkshire to propose a single original artwork (up to three cohesive parts) responding to the theme Tension, inspired by the history of Dean Clough Mill as a Victorian textile manufacturer and encompassing physical, emotional, social and systemic tension. Entrants must be 16 or over and without exclusive gallery representation; there are no training or nationality restrictions.
Work may be painting, sculpture, image, graphics, video or headphone-only sound, up to 150 x 150 x 150 cm; live performance, video projection and unamplified sound are excluded. Entry is free. Stage one is a proposal by 31 October 2026; the shortlist is announced on 16 December 2026 and completed works are due by 21 May 2027.
Ten finalists are exhibited at Dean Clough, Halifax, from 2 July to 5 September 2027, with an awards evening on 1 July. The winner receives £1,000 and acquisition by SCAF; nine further finalists receive £175 each. Finalists also gain website profiles and access to SCAF facilities.
