About
MAXIS is a non-profit, peer-to-peer symposium on sound and materiality, revived after 24 years from its origins at Sheffield Hallam University and relocated to rural Scotland as an intimate 40-capacity residential gathering at The Well Road Centre, Moffat, 15–19 July 2027. Curatorial themes include ritual and somatic experience, alternative intelligences and ecological frameworks.
Postgraduate researchers, independent sound practitioners and creative practitioners may propose written papers, live electronic or acoustic performances, workshops, spatial audio presentations or site-specific installations. Submit a 200-word abstract or portfolio links via CuratorSpace by 21 December 2026.
The heavily subsidised £250 fee covers four nights' accommodation, venue access, a presentation or performance slot and a hard copy of the ISBN conference proceedings.
