About
The Hessische Kulturstiftung awards travel and residency grants to visual artists with a connection to the German state of Hesse: born in Hesse, primary residence in Hesse since 1 January 2025, or graduates of a Hessian art academy or comparable institution. Artist duos may apply jointly. Current students, previous grant recipients and relatives of jury or staff are ineligible; there is no age limit.
For 2027/2028 the foundation offers five travel grants of €25,000 (3–12 months), seven residency grants at international locations (up to 12 months) and two combined residency-and-travel grants based in Kyoto. Recipients may apply for up to €7,700 in production and presentation funding over the three years after the grant.
Applications are submitted via the online portal bewerberportal.hkst.de by 15 October 2026, 11:59pm CET, with CV, project proposal, portfolio, ID and proof of Hesse connection. Decisions are expected in November 2026 and announced in December 2026.
