About
The Ferens Art Gallery in Hull runs an annual Open Exhibition for amateur and professional artists. All UK artists aged 16 or above may submit up to three works created within the last 18 months via an online application form. A panel of selectors chooses the exhibition in July; for 2026 the selectors were Anna Turzynski, Daniel Watts and Sam Larter.
For the 2026 edition, submissions ran from 30 April to 21 May 2026. The fee was £7.50 per artwork, with a £6 concessionary rate for 16-25 year olds and disabled artists. Selected work was delivered 23-30 September and the exhibition runs 16 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. Awards include the Friends of the Ferens Awards (£350, £250, £200), the Hallett & Future Ferens Young Artist Award (£200, ages 16-25), a Chair's Award and a People's Vote Award (£100 each). The call recurs each spring.
