About
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity runs faculty-led thematic visual arts residencies on its campus in Banff National Park. 'Sounding Like a Mountain' (17 May – 18 June 2027) explores relational, material and sonic practices that treat the land as a resonant environment; a second 2027 programme, 'Embodied Making', runs 5 July – 6 August 2027 (deadline 17 February 2027).
Applicants must be 18+ at the start, have post-secondary visual arts training or equivalent peer-recognised experience, and be available for the whole period; domestic and international artists are welcome (programmes do not qualify for a Canadian student visa).
Participants get a single room, all meals, an individual studio, faculty mentorship, seminars and campus facilities. The full fee is CAD 10,033.70; the Banff Centre Arts Scholarship (CAD 5,556.87) reduces the participant cost to CAD 4,476.78, and Canadian Indigenous artists may receive full coverage. Further financial aid is need-based.
