About
The Salón de Julio is the Municipality of Guayaquil's annual contemporary painting competition, held since 1959. The 65th edition, themed 'La pintura en presente', invited proposals that rethink pictorial language beyond traditional formats.
Entry was open to Ecuadorian artists of legal age resident in Ecuador or abroad, and to foreign artists with more than two consecutive years of residence in Ecuador. Each applicant submitted one original, previously unexhibited work online at salondejulio.com.ec with images, conceptual text, CV and ID by 30 June 2026 at 23:59. Preselected artists were notified on 7 July and delivered works by 14 July.
Prizes are USD 15,000, USD 10,000 and USD 5,000, and winning works enter the Museo Municipal's permanent collection. The exhibition opened with the awards ceremony on 23 July and runs 25 July to 10 October 2026 at the Museo Municipal de Guayaquil.
